Mormon Temples

Because I am Mormon. Because "we" have had an interesting publicity dilemma. And, because I can...

Here is the official explanation of what Temples are for.

If you have any questions, Please feel free to ask me or any other member of The Church or Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (the Mormons). We can answer questions.

Those temples are beautiful. Do Mormons go there every sunday like We go to Church every sunday? If not, isnt it kind of a waste not to use those building more often? (I dont mean that disrespectfully, I just didnt know how else to word it)

Actually, your question is a very common one. Mormons have regular church houses we use for our weekly Sunday worship. Everyone is welcome to go. The temples are reserved for those members that have kept certain requirements and are willing to make solemn covenants. Not all members of the Mormon Church go to the temple. But many who do go quite often. Some several times a week, some weekly, some monthly. It is up to the individual to determine how often he or she should go. Temples are usually open Tuesdays through Saturdays and the work there takes place during that time. Surprisingly, the temples are packed. In fact, members visit so frequently and keep it so busy that even with 128 temples worldwide, we have another 18 under construction. And I imagine there will be even more after that. The decision to build a temple is based a lot off of where there is a large concentration of members. This way the temples are used often and kept busy.

Here is the official statement from the church concerning your question. You can find more answers to FAQ here.(http://www.lds.org/temples/faq/0,11264,1904-1,00.html)

“Regular Sunday worship, instruction and other social and recreational activities occur in Latter-day Saint meetinghouses, or chapels. In temples, on the other hand, faithful members receive specific instruction about the purpose of life and their relationship to God. There they take part in family-oriented ordinances, both for themselves and in behalf of deceased ancestors. Sacred ordinances available only in temples make it possible for individuals to return to the presence of God and for families to be united eternally.”

Thank you for your question.
