Why I will save money on clothes for my daughter...

I admit it. We are hooked on Disney and Nickelodeon. I don’t know what I would do without the cute little shows they put on. However, I do consider myself to be fairly picky when it comes to shows. After all, who wants their kid acting like “Timmy” from “Fairly Odd Parents”? Not me. So we select only some shows to watch.

One show that I have always thought was SO DANG CUTE was Max and Ruby. (Nevermind my sister’s theory on Child Neglect and Abandonment) I just thought it was cute dialog between brother and sister. And, most importantly, quiet enough that my kiddos could fall asleep to it if they were tired.

So, even though, none of my boys took to Max and Ruby like I had hoped, I still occasionally offered it to them as an alternative to a nap. Fair trade.

Well, B LOVES Max and Ruby. That would be L.O.V.E.S.

We have watched multiple episodes in a row. Then the same episodes over and over and over and over and… you get the idea. She has Max and Ruby Beanie Babies. I have always seen Max’s little rebellions as “true-to-nature-childhood-mischief” and we have giggled at his silliness.

Alas, I was deceived. I had anchored a false security that Max and Ruby would never teach my child something contrary to my wishes. I had put my trust in the character of a bunny rabbit that wears blue overalls, eats bug jello and rides the bus across town with his "barely-old-enough-to-spit" sister.

I have learned my lesson well.

****SPOILER ALERT****
(seriously I don’t want to ruin the punchline for any Max and Ruby Fans out there )

This new season of Max and Ruby has brought various fairytales to “life” on the show. One of them being the Emperor’s New Clothing. Now the synopsis describes the episode as:

“Ruby and Grandma takes Max to the store to get him a new suit, but he wants nothing to do with it. Ruby tells him the story of Emperor Max's New Suit to get him to try on some clothes, but it doesn't quite have the effect she was hoping for." (Thanks Wikipedia. You are so very helpful. )

Well, the “effect” that Ruby and Grandma get is Max jumping out of the dressing room – without anything on – declaring the punch line boldly, “NEW SUIT.”

Thanks, Nickelodeon. Really. Thank you. Now would you please create a public service announcement, directed towards 3 year old girls, about the perils of boldly declaring (and displaying) “NEW SUIT” when it is dinner time. Or when we are trying to go to the store. Or when we have company over.

Seriously, B, not everyone wants to see your “NEW SUIT”!  Oy Vey

(yes, we will probably keep watching little Max and his sister Ruby -- at least till B (or myself) outgrows it)

Lol! Yeah my kids like Max and Ruby too but it is one of the shows that annoys me. This is right in line with the snow episode on Kia-Lan.

I wrote about it here

I LOVE Max and Ruby too. I occasionally have dreams about it. Sad huh?! Where's the mom though?
