Out of Curiosity...

Less than a year ago, I reluctantly began blogging upon my sister's request. Since then, I have seriously grown into blogging and LOVE it.

Maybe it is getting to release my thoughts into cyberspace, maybe it is just a cheap form of therapy. Maybe there is a closet author down inside waiting to break free.

Whatever the reason, it has been a great way for me to remember things I normally wouldn't even write down. A way for me to connect to old friends and make new ones. And a way for me to express my creativity -- or lack thereof.

But I am amazed when stumbling upon other's blogs how much time and effort people must spend on their blogs -- or others. Then there is the occasional plug for a product that makes me wonder how much of blogging is done to earn money. And, is it really profitable?

So the question is:

Is your blog for love or money? Do you blog because it is just something fun to do? Or do you blog to earn a buck?

I am interested in what you all have to say. Fill out my survey and/or post below. I know there are at least 38 people who read this blog, so I should get at least 38 responses right?

I love to blog. No money involved. I just love sharing stuff with other people. Either something I find that I think others might like, or finding common ground, or making friends.

Man is this the same blog I found before? Do you have two blogs? you are such a great writer, I love it! Anyway, on the blog note, I just like to record our family history since I have a horrible memory. It's such a great outlet for me too.

When I do blog, it's to share my thoughts and feelings with lots of family and friends in an easy and quick manner. I love learning about their lives too.

I understand with the economy the way it is, why some would be drawn to creative ways to earn extra money, and if that's their motivation, then I'm okay with that.

I started blogging to keep in touch with family and friends, but it soon became my own form of release. Often just writing it out makes me feel better. Then all the friends I've made, advice I've gotten ... it's the healthiest addiction out there!

My blog is so random that I wonder way anyone reads it at all. I blog for myself mainly;but I also rant, offer my lovely opinion, share things I think people might find interesting or helpful, post photos for vanity, and hope someone pops in to check on me.

My stats wax and wain without reason that I have been able to tap into. In order to "make" money a blog has to have about hundred hits a day (right?) My blog has been about 80 a day for months then slips down then up again. Oh well.

One thing I have noticed is that- not all, but most of the high hit blogs, the ones that pay big enough to quit your job or at least supplement it well, are snarky, sarcastic, mocking and/or mean. It's true that there are some like C.Jane/Nie Nie/Safely Gathered In that top the charts like crazy, but they are the exceptions (IMHP). I could be wrong, but the *easy* formula for money is mean+money.

I love blogging!
I definitely get a therapy fix from it.
Blogging changes perspective, everything I experience is now viewed through bloggy colored glasses.
It would be delightful if some super rich person, inspired by my blog, gave me a blank check. I'm not foolish enough to think that the one or two people who click on the add I recently placed will generate me enough income to buy anything the adds promote; but hey, you click my adds I'll click yours.

I blog because it's cheaper than therapy. My neighbor suggested I start a blog while I was trying to deal with my daughter's diagnosis. It took a while for this blog thing to grow on me--you can tell if you look at my archive. Since then, I started another blog about my quest to publish a middle-grade novel I wrote. I guess that blog is for love and money.

P.S. How do you get 39 people to follow your blog-let alone comment on it? Seriously, I can't even get my family to look at my blog. What's your secret?

I just love your blog! I think some of the reasons that I blog is to just connect with other moms out there and make new friends. I also blog to keep my family and friends updated on our lives and I think for me personally its alot like keeping a journal.

I blog mainly as a creative outlet and a way to keep my family in touch with what's happening in our world. I have lots of family around the country that read my blog..(none of them followers though..lol!)

There are many wonderful writers in blogland to read as well!

I blog for love, not money. In fact, I just finished creating a blog book for all my 2008 entries. I've discovered digital scrapbooking, so it didn't take much time and it was WAY cheaper than paying one of those companies on the web to do it for me. And the book is now a family record of the year! Blogs are journal entries, and I LOVE how easy it is to keep up with it. I never wrote in a regular journal as often as I blog.

Reading these comments makes me think more about possibly starting a blog sooner than later.
